1940 Hamilton Ross (WGF Case)

Serviced May 2020, hand polished 14k white gold filled case, two-tone gilt and coral dial, superb patina, unworn leather strap, NOS mineral glass crystal, alloy mainspring.

Hamilton produced the Ross from 1939 through 1946. The early models used Hamilton's 980 caliber movement. In 1940, the Ross was offered with additional dials and case materials, one of which was white gold case and gilt/coral dial with a 982 movement. The case and bezel on this example are 14k white gold filled and have been hand polished. The dial has even patina giving the watch tremendous character. The Hamilton logo and sub seconds paint is excellent. Some of the paint is faded on some of the roman numeral hour markers. The original hands are blue. This Hamilton Ross comes ready to wear on a new, never worn, brown leather two piece strap with silver tone buckle and contrasting stitching. The serial number on the movement (J108855) indicates it was finished in 1940. The 982 small seconds movement was serviced May 2020 and is running well and currently performing at +/- 30 seconds per day.

Case - Hand polished 14k white gold filled bezel and case back. Some fine scratching on the front of the bezel. Minor plate wear on the corners.

Lugs - No noticeable plate wear. Drilled lugs to make strap changing a snap.

Crystal - NOS mineral glass crystal installed as part of the full servicing May 2020.

Hands - Original blue hour and minute hands with patina.

Dial - Two tone gilt and coral dial, roman numeral hour markers. Honest and even patina across the dial. Sunken small seconds dial at the 6 o'clock. All the original paint in excellent condition other than some fading around the hour numerals.

Band - Unworn, brown leather strap with silver toned clasp and contrasting stitching.

Movement - Hamilton American made 982 caliber, 14/0 size, manual wind, 19 jewels. Runs strong and keeping excellent time.
